I can remember with excitement the launch of the Vespa LX range. A momentous occasion as the baton was passed on from the ever popular ET range. Seems like years ago, the LX just rolls on creating its own slice of Vespa history.

Recently Vespa added what has to be the most important update in the LX families history, fuel injection. Lets see what it all means for the LX 150.

From a visual perspective, Vespa just gets things right. The lines are very much tied to the past and whilst others copy, nobody has come up with what has to be one of the best looking scooters on the market today.3 Y3 v" A# ]5 F+ P, h M
7 V5 Z' r0 U8 s' s/ d5 h" NVespa is different, the all metal one piece body, unique. This remains the cornerstone of the Vespa brand and structurally it works. Thus Vespa can get away with using a 10 inch wheel on the back and a slightly larger 11 inch wheel on the front.

Whilst up-front the suspension is traditionally the cantilever type arrangement, on the rear, a single adjustable shock. Very simple, extremely sturdy, it works.

The dash was changed marginally in Vespa's last round of updates. An engine warning light has been added courtesy of the electronic management system. Whilst in this area, the hand grips were also updated to a thicker Vespa embossed type.0 B2 z+ X) [# M* p1 _5 w
4 ]$ r7 F$ u# a3 FThe engine remains that tried, trusted and bullet-proof leader motor. Now with fuel injection and pumping out an impressive 8.9 Kw of power. More impressive is the 10.8 Nm of torque. Enough power for one or if needed, two.

s7 E8 i& o. g3 O; k& ?: mThe injected LX 150 gathers speed fairly quickly. And as per all Piaggio leader engines the more kilometres you place on it, the better they go. Around town the LX provides ample acceleration to keep up with surrounding traffic, it will easily hold 90-100 km/h motorway speeds. The injection is the clear winner here, at idle its smooth and acceleration is not stuttered. It really is a twist and go proposition, immediate.

Handling is taught and agile, and despite the small wheels the LX remains incredibly compliant. This is all due to the one piece metal chassis which separates Vespa from the rest. Because of its size the Vespa is so easy to ride, flicks from side to side with the slightest thought.

Actually I really don't need to go into too much more. The new seat is nice and comfy, the thicker handgrips help with feel, and the riding position is nice and upright.

The Vespa LX remains true, a solid quality feel that can only be related to such a brand. Vespa always has the time in a models life to develop and improve, the LX 150 i.e. is case in hand. ( `8 a' d' L4 U2 r: b2 w4 W5 b
' s0 V2 J5 L+ q8 A' [4 e1 vBy choosing a scooter like the LX you are not only getting a piece of Vespa history, you are also getting a machine that will last for years to come. The engine has longish service intervals, and given the quality, time is on your side. # x* o+ ^* o- W

Sounds familiar doesn't it. As I said, things remain relatively much the same when we talk Vespa. And this is part of the pleasure when owning one. Plus it feels good when you park it, for me its one of the coolest looking scooters going round.

Right now the LX 150 is selling in good numbers, it will justifiably be in the top ten list of scooters sold in Australia this year. If its time you upgraded or the budget sufficient, the LX 150 is a must have test ride. Presently the Vespa LX 150 i.e. is selling for $5990 + ORC, good value if you ask me.
